The Campaign

The Arctic 2006 was a NASA field campaign to validate the Earth Observing System (EOS) Aqua Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) sea ice retrievals. It consisted of one deployment over Alaska in March 2006. The NASA P-3 aircraft was equipped with polarimetric scanning radiometers, laser altimeters, and radars to collect measurements of sea ice concentration, temperature, and snow depth for calibration and validation. Arctic 2006 was funded by the EOS and the Cryospheric Sciences Program as part of the EOS Aqua AMSR-E Arctic Sea-Ice Validation Program.
